I am currently recovering from finishing Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami My rating: 3 of 5 stars Norwegian Wood is an emotionally distressing book! I did like it a lot, but I can't say it was an easy reading experience. The book tells a coming-of-age story from protagonist Toru Watanabe. We follow the end of his teenage years as he deals with grief and love. I was somewhat foreseeing what was going to happen at the end, but at the same time trying to stay very positive that things would just go well. I am happy I have read it, but I would advise anyone who's thinking about going into this to check the trigger warnings first and consider if you are mentally prepared to go into a dense, heavy emotional journey. After finishing the book, I literally stood up and went to my boyfriend to ask for a hug and to do something different right away to help me get my mind off those emotions. Wind/Pinball: Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973 by Haruki Murakami My rating: 3 of 5 stars These were the first two novels written by Haruki Murakami. I heard about this author on book tube and loved all I heard. I read one of his later books, fell in love with his work, and decided to read his books in publication order. This is clearly a debut novel, it lacks plot and structure but has amazing vibes. It's a real slice-of-life style of fiction where it's just fun to hang around the characters. This is a three and half-starts, I loved the vibes, and I wish I could spend some time drinking beer with the characters in the book. View all my reviews

After spending 2020 and 2021 in the biggest reading slump of my life, where I read zero books in two years, I decided to bring back reading to my life, as a central activity, given that it is something I have always loved and cherished. I have a Degree in Literature, which should mean that I read many books, but that was different. Taking the degree took a toll on me. My views about literature and reading sent me far away from what initially drove me to read. I just wanted to read for fun when I started, and thatโ€™s what I was missing at the university. I felt like I had to read โ€œreal literatureโ€ and hard books that were not easy to understand without wasting time to have fun with the books I liked. There were so many things in that experience that I had to get over to get back to reading just for fun. After two years in a reading slump, I bought a fe...
