I finished reading Gideon the Ninth!

Image
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed following the story of Gideon the Ninth and entering the universe of The Locked Tomb series a lot. It was complicated at first, with lots of names and worldbuilding, but after getting the hang of it, it was pretty nice. Excellent book for those who enjoy complicated worldbuilding, space adventures with fantasy, and a creative magic system. The way the necromancy worked was very interesting. I did not think I was gonna continue with the series when I first started the book, after the 60% mark, I put Harrow the Ninth on hold on Libby App, and I can't wait to start it. View all my reviews

I read Red Rising by Pierce Brown and I fucking loved it!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown My rating: 5 of 5 stars Okay, let's talk about Red Rising! I ended up reading this book because it was super hyped, at least on my bookstagram feed. It's like you're all reading Red Rising. To be honest, I did not enjoy the first 50% of this book. I had to kind of work through it. I was bitter and upset, and I thought I would be the odd one who hated this book and wanted nothing to do with it. There were incredible action scenes. I loved Sevro and the Howlers, and I loved how Darrow fought through it all. I could not stop myself from putting the second book of the series on hold on the library app, and I may consider buying physical copies to have the whole series if it keeps going as the first book went. If you're wondering why I constantly rate 5 stars, it's becau...

How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu My rating: 2 of 5 stars I started liking this book a lot, but then it went downhill. I recognize it's an excellent book. It just wasn't for me. I may give a second chance to it. I was interested, but as I entered a very busy time at work, the book suddenly felt like a drag, and I remembered that I wanted to read for fun and not to get bored. At a certain point, I found myself skimming some of the pages and not feeling fully connected to the book, which I totally already do at work, so I don't want to do that during my reading time. I was very close to dnf'ing, but then I went and got myself an Audible trial, blasted the audiobook on my headphones as I played The Sims 4 on a lovely apartment in San Mashyuno, and just finished the hell out of it. Then I realized I hadn't paid enough attention, returned all the chapters, and listened to them again while cooking on 2x speed. The voice actors could barely breathe. Maybe ...
