I read A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin

Image
A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin My rating: 4 of 5 stars I heard about this book a while ago as a book that had a magic system based on tea. I love tea and magic systems, so I had to check it out. There are wonderful descriptions of teas and food. The plot is slightly generic, but the element of tea really makes the book stand out. I will be reading the second book eventually, but plot-wise, I do not feel absolutely compelled to continue. I loved the vibes though, the whole interaction in the kitchens, all the tea and stuff. I will be giving 3.75 stars to be accurate. View all my reviews

I read The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker

The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker My rating: 5 of 5 stars I absolutely love the Hellraiser movie franchise and Clive Barker as an artist, so it was very easy for me to love this book as well. I have recently read Piranesi and have been in awe of books that, although super short, still have such a developed universe. It's the type of book I wish I could write myself someday. The novella was short, and I wish we had more time with the Cenobites. I will definitely be progressing to the comic books to see more of The Order of the Gash! Easy 5 stars. View all my reviews

I read The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski

The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4.5 stars. I loved this book way more than I expected. Before reading it, my only experience with The Witcher was watching my boyfriend play the games. I personally never played much, I only started the first one, but it didn't go through. I never considered the amount of humor in this series, which was a spectacular reading experience. Each short story made us more and more familiar with Geralt, and in the end, I couldn't help but want to read the next book in the series. Also, I am interested in playing the games now since I feel familiar with the characters. I ended up reading this one for being recommended as one of the best series of High Fantasy, and as far as book one goes, it stands for it. View all my reviews

I read Hear the Wind Sing/Pinball by Haruki Murakami

Wind/Pinball: Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball, 1973 by Haruki Murakami My rating: 3 of 5 stars These were the first two novels written by Haruki Murakami. I heard about this author on book tube and loved all I heard. I read one of his later books, fell in love with his work, and decided to read his books in publication order. This is clearly a debut novel, it lacks plot and structure but has amazing vibes. It's a real slice-of-life style of fiction where it's just fun to hang around the characters. This is a three and half-starts, I loved the vibes, and I wish I could spend some time drinking beer with the characters in the book. View all my reviews

I read Frankenstein by Marry Shelley

Image
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley My rating: 4 of 5 stars I loved reading this classic. I started randomly after noticing it was free to read classics via Kindle, and I was in for a ride. I absolutely loved Frankenstein, the creature he created, and their relationship. There was a lot of word repetition, which would not meet the standards of today's industries. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, and it felt somewhat up-to-date even though it is a book written in the 1800s. View all my reviews

I read A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin My rating: 5 of 5 stars This has definitely become one of my favorite books. I shared my Winter with this book, reading slowly, chapter by chapter, and it was such a ride. In 2022, I decided to start watching the show, which I did not pay much attention to when it was being released. I absolutely loved it, even though I hated the butchered ending. Now reading the books was a whole other experience. George R. R. Martin is an absolute genius. The writing is beautiful and infinitely superior to the series. The intricacies, the plots, the characters and the way they relate to each other, the world-building, everything is insane, absolutely high level. No wonder this is one of the most appraised fantasy series out there. I will definitely go to the next book as soon as I can. I am just now trying to find the second book of the A Song of Ice and Fire series in an edition to match the one I have, and since Amazon does not have it available, my purs
